Mistake 1: Renting a jet-ski on the beach
The classic, and still the most expensive fifteen minutes in town: rent a jet-ski from a beach operator, return it, and meet a suddenly-discovered scratch priced at 5,000–50,000 THB, with associates materialising to help you feel outnumbered. The fix is absolute rather than procedural — do not rent beach jet-skis in Pattaya, full stop. If you must ignore that, video every centimetre of the hull, in the operator’s presence, before touching the throttle, and know the Tourist Police number (1155). But the cleaner answer is substitution: parasailing for the cheap thrill, the wake parks for real throttle time with helmets instead of hustles, banana boats on Koh Larn for the family version. Our scams guide dissects the mechanics; this paragraph exists so you never need the dissection.
