The songthaew (baht bus) — Pattaya’s public transport
Pattaya has no metro, no city bus network and no trams. What it has instead is the songthaew — a dark-blue pickup truck with two bench seats in the back, universally called the "baht bus". Hundreds of them circulate on fixed loops all day and much of the night. You flag one down anywhere along its route, hop on the back, press the ceiling buzzer when you want out, and pay the driver through his window after you get off. Do not ask the driver anything when boarding a moving loop — the moment you ask "can you take me to…?" he switches from shared-route mode to private-charter mode and the price jumps from pocket change to a negotiated taxi fare. Board silently, ride, buzz, pay. That is the whole system.
