A 500-acre landscaped garden complex 18 km south of Pattaya: French garden, orchids, cactus houses, Dinosaur Valley and four daily cultural shows.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

Nong Nooch is a vast private garden estate off Sukhumvit Road between Pattaya and Sattahip, famous for its formal French garden, its orchid and bromeliad collections, a cactus garden the size of a small park and the concrete dinosaurs of Dinosaur Valley that children remember longer than the plants. A Thai cultural show and an elephant show run four times a day, and a sightseeing bus loops the grounds for those who do not want to walk. It is big enough to fill half a day and, on weekdays outside Thai school holidays, calm enough to enjoy.

What is in the garden

The grounds split into themed areas you can walk or ride between. The French Garden is the postcard: clipped hedges in Versailles patterns with a hilltop viewing pavilion. Beyond it are the orchid and bromeliad houses, a cactus and succulent garden that is genuinely one of the largest in Asia, a palm collection, a bonsai area, topiary animals, and Dinosaur Valley, where life-size dinosaur models line a kilometre of path. There is a small zoo, boat rides on the lake and a sky walk. The sightseeing bus, included in most ticket types, is worth using at least one way because the distances are real.

Tickets and show times

At the gate foreigners pay 500 THB for the garden alone or 800 THB including the Thai cultural show and the elephant show; Thai residents pay less. Online tickets through the major booking platforms are usually 15–25 percent cheaper than the gate and sometimes bundle the bus or a hotel transfer, so book the day before. The shows run about four times a day, typically 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30, with the cultural show (dance, Thai boxing demonstration, sword fighting) lasting roughly 40 minutes and the elephant show following. Our Nong Nooch tour page lists the current bundles and prices.

The elephant question

The elephant show includes tricks such as painting and football, and elephant rides are sold on the grounds. We do not recommend the rides and we think the shows are the weakest part of the day; the garden stands on its own. If you want elephant contact, the sanctuary visits near Pattaya are a better choice and we list them separately.

Getting there and planning the day

Nong Nooch is on Sukhumvit Road about 18 km south of Pattaya, 30–40 minutes by car. A Bolt or Grab costs roughly 400–500 THB each way, and there is no useful public transport, so most visitors take a tour with hotel pickup or combine it with Khao Chi Chan Buddha Mountain and Silverlake Vineyard, which are 10 minutes further along the same road. Arrive at opening for the coolest walking, see the French Garden first before the tour buses, and time your lunch for the 11:30 or 13:30 show.
